Software Engineering Manager for Data Access team

Location: Office in central Gothenburg, Sweden

Join Spotfire, a visual data science platform and a leader in transforming data into insights and actionable decisions. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead an established team of developers across a range of skills & technologies. 

You will lead a skilled team of developers in a dynamic environment where visual analytics, data science, and streaming capabilities converge. Further, you will oversee software development projects, ensuring technical excellence, and driving the team towards achieving organizational goals. 

Success in this role will be significantly driven by effective collaboration with our diverse, global engineering team, encompassing experts from product and project management, user experience, quality assurance, documentation and support.

About the team

We are now looking for a Software Engineering Manager for the established Data Access team in Gothenburg. Without Data Access there is no data to analyze. Spotfire can retrieve data from a number of different sources like 3rd party databases and cloud based data sources. The team creates new functionality and maintains existing code, gives support etc.

The team uses many different technologies in a complex product environment. Spotfire works in  agile cross-functional teams in an international environment with teams in the US, Sweden, Romania and India. Data Access has development teams in Sweden and India, in two different line organizations. Now we are looking for a manager for the Swedish Data Access team.

Key Responsibilities

The different teams in Spotfire collaborate to produce a product – tasks can span multiple teams. The Data Access team consists of 15 skilled developers.

The main task is to reduce friction for the developers so they can concentrate on development and make sure that the day to day operations move smoothly, new features are developed, support cases solved etc.

Strategy and Planning: Contribute to the strategic planning of the engineering department. Being the voice of the developers and setting a technical direction and long-term goals for the team. To be able to do this you need a strong technical background.

Team Leadership and Development: Guide, mentor, support and develop a team. Make sure that the team thrives and produces good maintainable code. Working closely with managers in other locations to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages innovation and continuous learning.

Emphasis on Secure Design: Ensure a strong focus on security in all aspects of software design and development. Experience in this area is a valuable asset, enhancing the team's capability to identify and mitigate potential security risks.

Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other departments, stakeholders to align software development with company objectives. Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Quality Assurance: Ensure the implementation of best practices in coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.

Full Lifecycle Management: Coordinate with infrastructure teams to ensure smooth operations and delivery of our releases across multiple channels.

Resource Management: Efficiently allocate resources and personnel to maximize productivity and meet project deadlines.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development

  • Experience in managing and leading software engineering teams

  • Conversational Swedish language proficiency

  • Labour permit for Sweden

  • Commuting proximity to the Göteborg office
