Job Description

A Performance Test Engineer is responsible for ensuring software applications and systems perform optimally under various conditions. This involves designing, developing, and executing performance tests to identify bottlenecks and analyze their impact on stability and scalability. By understanding both functional and non-functional requirements, and collaborating effectively with stakeholders, the Performance Test Engineer provides crucial recommendations for improvement, ultimately contributing to a seamless and efficient user experience.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify performance requirements, such as response times, throughput, and resource usage.

  • Create comprehensive performance test plans detailing scope, objectives, methods, and timelines

  • Design test cases to simulate various conditions, including high user load, stress, prolonged usage, and traffic spikes

  • Employ performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling, k6) to script and execute tests in a production-like environment, monitor system behavior, gather performance data, and set/compare with benchmarks

  • Analyze performance results, identify bottlenecks, document findings, and collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., developers, architects, project managers) to resolve issues

  • Recommend code optimizations, infrastructure changes, or configuration adjustments to improve performance

  • Stay updated with performance testing tools, automate processes for efficiency, and promote performance considerations throughout the software development lifecycle

Required Experience/Skills

  • 10+ years of software testing experience, preferably with a product-based company

  • Proven experience in performance testing and tuning enterprise applications at both system and component levels using manual and automated methods

  • Proficient in one or more performance testing languages, tools, or technology

  • Strong background in server-side technologies, clients, and database systems

  • Extensive experience in setting up test environments, including installation, configuration, debugging, and maintenance across various operating systems, databases, and cloud platforms

  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of system operations beyond documentation

  • Skilled in testing web services and APIs, with knowledge of Jenkins, pipelines, and XML being advantageous

  • Hands-on experience with cloud technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, AWS, GCP, Azure, etc., is a plus

  • A strong desire to learn new tools, products, and technologies

Education

  • BE/ME/BTech/MTech in Computer Science, IT, or related disciplines from a reputed institute
