Senior Software Engineer – XenServer Interfaces
What we're looking for:
You're an enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer with a passion for Windows application user-interface design and development to join a team with some of our most talented engineers working on XenServer.
About XenServer:
XenServer is a commercial virtualization platform based on the open-source Xen hypervisor. XenServer powers everything from government organisations, multi-thousand seat virtual desktop deployments, super-fast network load balancers, all the way up to some of the largest public and private clouds in the world.
What you'll be doing:
We'll develop your skills and knowledge base as you join fellow engineers, building and developing the interfaces for the XenServer virtualization stack.
The primary application you would develop is XenCenter which is a Windows application that provides the user interface for one or more XenServer resource pools such that virtual machines can be deployed, managed and monitored from a Windows desktop machine.
XenCenter is a large C# .NET Framework application (1M+ LOC) built using WinForms.
In addition to XenCenter, you would be responsible for code-bases for building the XenServer SDKs. These are written in C#, Java, PowerShell, C, Go, Python and Ocaml.
As part of this role, you would learn about desktop and server virtualization, networking, enterprise storage, Windows, Linux, distributed systems and much more.
XenCenter sits at the top of the software stack and you'll get to partner closely with other teams for the XenServer toolstack, storage, Windows device drivers and lower-level components such as the Linux kernel. We'll encourage you to progress and you'll be working on the development of multi-person, cross-team features following an agile development methodology interacting with customers, partners and other Cloud Software Group teams.
Responsibilities:
Software development, including design, estimation, testing and coding.
User interface design and prototyping.
Contributions to the design and build of cross-team features, and participation in other cross-team initiatives.
Day-to-day issue triage and code maintenance.
Working as part of a self-organising team, working within an agile framework.
Input into future product requirements for XenServer.
We'd like you to have:
Understanding and practical experience of programming languages, including procedural languages (e.g., C# or Java) and scripting languages (e.g. Python).
A passion for user-interface design and development.
A desire for excellence in terms of performance, reliability and usability, as well as functional correctness.
Desirable:
Bachelor's or higher degree, preferably in software engineering or computer science or equivalent experience.
Server virtualization in general, and Xen or XenServer in particular.
Scrum or other agile development practices.
