Senior Software Development Engineer in Test

Introduction:

We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with object oriented Python experience to work with the XenServer (XS) System Quality team. Responsibilities will include working with quality managers, quality leads, release team and developers to identify and implement automated and manual test requirements for the new and existing features of XenServer.

About XenServer:

XenServer is a commercial virtualisation platform based on the open-source Xen hypervisor.

XenServer powers everything from government organizations, multi-thousand seat virtual desktop

deployments, super-fast network load balancers, all the way up to some of the largest public and private clouds in the world.

You are a curious software/QA engineer who enjoys learning how things work and collaborating toward solutions to complex problems.

Your strong desire to learn and develop are in addition to your strong written & verbal communication skills.

You have a good understanding of the software development lifecycle process, computer science fundamentals, operating systems and are proficient in writing object oriented Python.

You have experience of working in an agile environment and version control.

You have good knowledge of networking protocols and enterprise grade storage solutions.

You have understanding of server virtualisation

You are comfortable working in Linux and Windows environments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain automated and manual test scripts using Python.

  • Maintenance and functional enhancements of automated test assets.

  • Participate in code reviews.

  • Collaborate with cross functional development teams to deliver bug fixes and new features

  • Requirement analysis.

  • Measure, monitor and report on Test progress, product quality, test results and test progress.

  • Analyzing and triaging test failures to identify root causes and collaborate with development teams on resolutions.

  • Identify and report defects.

  • Drive standards and best practices in QA and Testing and contribute to process improvements

Required Experience / Skills:

  • Computer Science Degree or equivalent relevant industry experience.

  • 5+ years of programming experience in object oriented Python.

  • In depth knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.

  • Demonstrated understanding of functional, non-functional, regression, and performance testing methodologies

  • Solid understanding of networking protocols.

  • Experience working with enterprise class SAN/NAS(e.g., iSCSI, NFS, FC) storage solutions

  • A passion for the subject matter and the curiosity to search out and try new things as well as seek new challenges.

  • Quick learner, happy working on unfamiliar technologies and programming languages and learning as you go.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and ability to connect with all levels of management.

..and it would be great if you had exposure to:

  • CI/CD and associated infrastructure/toolsets: Jenkins, Virtual Machines.

  • Experience or desire to work with cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure.
