Senior Software Engineer, XenServer Networking and Server Partners

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer for our flagship XenServer hypervisor to maintain a technical relationship with our hardware-vendor partners, develop new virtualisation capabilities, and resolve discovered defects. As part of the Partnership Engineering team you will be responsible for liaising with tier 1 OEMs and hardware vendors to enable XenServer to work with current and future hardware in the Enterprise Networking and Server fields. Additionally, you will work as part of a small team focused on projects and features outside of our Partner needs, within our core technologies. We work with upstream Open Source communities and projects, such as the Xen Project. You'll join a skilled and friendly team of software developers who work to deliver a highly reliable, resilient, and performant experience for our customers.

About XenServer

XenServer is a commercial virtualisation platform based on the open-source Xen Project hypervisor. XenServer powers everything from government organizations, financial institutes, multi-thousand seat virtual desktop deployments, super-fast network load balancers, all the way up to some of the largest public and private clouds in the world.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Aligning XenServer hardware and architectural roadmaps with the bleeding edge technologies that are under development at partner companies

  • Working with XenServer engineers internally, and applying your own software engineering skills in order to extend and enhance XenServer

  • Acting as a requirements analyst, communicating partners’ technical needs to the wider XenServer business including XenServer Product Management and Technical Leadership

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of technical relationships with assigned tier 1 hardware manufacturers

  • Providing deep technical consultancy and solving technical issues for partners to enable them to build successful products around XenServer

  • Coordinating internally to ensure that Partner Hardware Compatibility List submissions and driver enablement are delivered to our customers 

Required Experience & Skills

  • Able to maintain and nurture a technical and product communication relation with hardware vendors

  • Excellent communication skills. Able to comfortably explain our product development to partners

  • Can understand partners' technology roadmap and explain to our product management team

  • Excellent C coding skills

  • Good Python coding skills

  • Understanding of make-based build systems

  • Good code-review skills, able to offer constructive feedback to peers

  • Experience with operating-system management of devices such as GPUs or network interface cards

  • Experience of unit-testing and a commitment to software quality

  • Understanding of working with a version-control system

  • Able to present a professional image of our company when dealing with external partners

Preferred

  • Presentation skills for explaining technical concepts

  • Understand the concepts of x84_64 CPUs and/or PCIe-device virtualization

  • Developer experience with type 1 hypervisors

  • Exposure to Linux kernel development

  • Experience with Git

Education

University BSc degree in relevant field or equivalent experience
